Eden Buxton: Photography Emphasis

My series Human is used to imply existence of human presence through desolate space.  Although there is a lack of physical form, an implication of emotions, such as melancholia and isolation are created.  The photographs are to push the viewer into a state of memory and empathy.  I am seeking imagery that is relatable, not definable.

I have extended this theme through family and the difference between emotional and biological ties.  My series To Live is an exploration of mortality and the emotional experience that coincides it.  Our culture has a fascination with blood lineage and it's attachment to us.  Why does genealogy have such importance?  Are the emotional connections we make more, or less, meaningful?

My other work, in a broader perspective, has similarly challenged the viewer with tensions, i.e., the removal of the focal point in White Space, the stains and wrinkles in Door, and the obscure reference to death in ". . . for people have tried. . ." I motivate the viewer to feel something, whether it be irritability or anger, etc.

My findings through these explorations demonstrate an explanation to my making work that emits despair.  By evoking this emotion out of my viewer, it gives me a chance to express and connect with the emotions I have previously experienced.  I plan to further investigate human emotions and their effect on my, and others', psyche.
